What time does City Hall open/close?

City Hall is located at 10 West Tyrone Street and is open Monday through Friday 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Days of operation may be change due to observed holidays.

How much are the City blue bags?

We offer two choices for the blue bags. We have the small bag that is 25 gallon, this one cost $3.25 per bag. Also we have the large bag that is 40 gallons, this bag cost $4.00 per bag.

Does the city have a compost site? What are the compost hours?

Yes, you can find the compost site down behind the City Shop on Ottawa Street. The compost is available 24/7. 

What items are accepted at the compost?

Yard and garden waste such as leaves, shrubs, trees, and grass clippings can be deposited at our site. Only organic materials are acceptable.

I am planting new grass/sod. Does the city offer a discount on my water bill?

The city will do a 1 month ONLY discount of 50% on the water usage of the month you plan to do the most watering.

Where do I vote?

City residents will vote on Election Day at City Hall 10 West Tyrone Street. 

Does the city require permits for a peddler and/or soliciting license?

Yes, you can get your permit at City Hall when you register.

How do I locate my property lines?

Most lots should have a surveying pin at the corners of the lot. These ½ inch round pipes are typically buried in the ground and you may need a metal detector to locate. These pipes shall not be moved or removed. It is the property owner's responsibility to determine where the property lines are located when applying for building and zoning permits.

When is the City Junk Day?

The city council will determine each year if the city will provide a junk-day. Its usually held once a year in the spring or early summer. Keep an eye out for the yearly newsletter that is mailed out every May, Facebook, or the city website cityoflecenter.com.

When is garbage pick up?

Le Center Public Works will conduct curbside garbage pickup on Thursday mornings starting at 8:00 am. In the event of a holiday falling on Thursday, garbage pickup will be rescheduled the day before.

Where can I purchase the blue city garbage bags?

Garbage must be placed in designated (City of Le Center Blue Bags), available for purchase at City Hall, Hardware Hank, and Rademacher’s grocery store. You can purchase bags at city hall individually.

What type of payment options do I have for paying my utility bill?

The City of Le Center offers multiple payment options to ensure each resident has an efficient and convenient way in paying their utility bill.

  • Drop Off / In Person     

    Stop by City Hall and either drop it off with City Staff or utilize the drop box located outside on the curb.  

  • Mail

    Mail a check with statement so it is received by City Hall by the due date.  Send payments to:

  • Automatic Payment Plan (ACH)

The City of Le Center offers automatic payment from your checking/savings account for utilities. There is no charge and you still receive a statement each month. If you are interested, please complete the Direct Payment Application,attach a voided check (for checking accounts) or deposit slip (for savings accounts) and return it to City Hall.

Please continue to make payments until your utility statement states "DO NOT PAY ACH". It may take up two (2) billing cycles for the automatic payment plan to start. Once the automatic payment plan is set up on your account, the amount due on your utility bill will be withdrawn from your bank account on approximately the 30th day of the month. If you change banks or accounts, it is your responsibility to notify City Hall and complete a new form.

Can I dig on my own property?

Any time that digging is done on any property within the state, Minnesota Law requires that Gopher State One Call be contacted 48 hours before you plan to dig to identify if there are any utilities buried on the property.

  • This service is free to the property owner.
  • It is the responsibility of the property owner to conduct excavation in a careful and prudent manner. Never assume the depth of a utility or that the depth of the utilities is consistent.
  • Gopher State One does not locate underground sprinklers, power lines to garage or other accessory building, propane gas lines or invisible fencing.
Are we allowed to have chicken in city limits?

Per city code, "animals"—including cattle, mules, sheep, goats, swine, ponies, ducks, geese, turkeys , chickens, guinea hens, and feathered fowl are classified as a public nuisance. Consequently, these animals may not be kept or maintained on any property within city limits, whether owned, leased, or rented.

Am I able to have a campfire on my property?

Recreational fires defined as the burning of materials other than rubbish where fuel being burned is not contained in an incinerator, outdoor fireplace or barbecue pit and with a total fuel area of 3 feet or less in diameter and 2 feet in height. Recreational fires are permitted under the following conditions: a 50 foot clearance from any structure or combustible material is maintained, buckets, shovels, or garden hose are readily available. 

Pool

When does the pool open?

Since the majority of our pool staff is students, the pool usually opens the first week in June and closes mid August.

Public Works/Parks

Who do I contact if a street light is out?

The city does not own the street lights. Call MVEC dispatch at 1-800-282-6832.

How can I reserve a park shelter?

Call City Hall 507-357-4450 to reserve a park shelter.

A snowplow hit my mailbox, will the city fix it?

The City accepts responsibility for damages to mailboxes and the damage is by physically being struck by a plow blade, wing, or other piece of equipment.  Please note: damage caused by snow hitting the mailbox is not covered.

Will the city trim my trees?

The Public Works Department trims trees located on City property, within City right-of ways. If you have questions, please call City Hall 507-357-4450.

Who do I contact regarding poor visibility at an intersection due to shrubs or trees?

How do I know if a tree is mine or belongs to the City?

The public works staff can help assist with determining if a tree in on personal property or city property. Call city hall 507-357-4450.

Where should I dispose of my tree?

At the City's compost site located behind the City Shop on Ottawa Street.

Will the City pay for tree removal?

No, the City will only pay to have trees removed on the boulevard.

Who is responsible for maintenance of water meters, valves, and water service lines?

Plumbing into the house is the homeowners responsibility.

If I experience frozen water service after normal city business hours, who do I call?

Call 507-357-4888 (dispatch).

Where does my water come from?

Your city water comes from groundwater that is treated in the cities water treatment plant that was built in 2007 located next to city hall at 10 West Tyrone Street.

How do I get rid of a couch or appliance?

The City does not accept furniture /mattresses/ or appliances at the recylincing center. You can call MWPC Minnesota Waste Processing Company  1-507-625-5746 located at 1051 Summit Ave, Mankato MN.

Where can I get rid of paint?                                                                                                           

Le Sueur County has agreements with Blue Earth County and Scott County to dispose of household hazardous waste (such as paints, stains, varnish, cleaning products, rechargeable batteries, fluorescent bulbs, antifreeze, motor oil, adhesives, and mercury containing items).

What are winter parking regulations?

Sec 40-89 Winter Parking: No motor vehicle or trailer of any kind shall be parked on any public street of any residential or business district following a one inch or more snow fall accumulation and the continuation thereafter until such time the streets of the City of Le Center have been plowed open from curb to curb.  Any motor vehicle or trailer shall be cited by the City of Le Center Police Department and/or towed at the expense of the owner of any motor/recreational vehicle or trailer found to be in violation of this ordinance.  

I want to talk to a Le Center Police Officer on duty for a NON emergency. How do I get ahold of them?

For ALL EMERGENCIES call 911. If you are trying to get ahold a LCPD Officer on duty call dispatch at 507-357-4450.

What is the process for purchasing firearm?

You will need to fill out a permit application. You can turn your application into city hall or the police station. A color copy of your ID will be taken.

How do I obtain a permit to carry a firearm?

Contact the Sheriff’s Department in the county in which you live. 

Do you provide fingerprinting services?

Le Center Police Department does not offer fingerprinting services. The Le Sueur County Sheriff's Office does Civil Fingerprints on the following days/times. No appointment needed. Please come to the Justice Center located at 435 E Derrynane Street, Le Center, MN 56057. Please enter the employee parking lot and enter the Book Release door.

How do I properly dispose of medication? 

The Take it to The Box program promotes the safe use, safe storage and safe disposal of unneeded prescription and over-the-counter medications. Le Sueur County is serious about preventing medication misuse/abuse and about environmentally safe disposal of unneeded medications.

  1. No hazardous waste, business waste
  2. No IV bags, bloody/infectious waste, diabetic supplies, chemotherapy drugs
  3. No syringes, needles, or sharps accepted
  4. No thermometers, trash, batteries
  5. Take unneeded medication to the box for no charge
  6. Leave medication in the original container
  7. Remove your name/identifying information
  8. Leave the name of the medication
  9. Drop medication into the disposal box opening located at:

Can the police help me if I lock my keys in the car?

No Le Center Police Department will not respond to vehicle lockouts.

Does Le Center have a curfew ordinance?

Yes, Chapter 28 OFFENSES AND MISCELLANEOUS PROVISIONS* Article II. Curfew. Sec. 28-36. Authorized.
